Occupational Summary:

As a visual storyteller, your primary role will be to capture, edit and present images that best represent Duke’s mission and core values. Perform artistic, creative and skilled videography and photography work to capture imagery reflecting the full range of activities at Duke University.

Work Performed:

Capture video and photos representing the full range of activities occurring on Duke University campus, utilizing creative and artistic skill.

Use image/video editing software such as Adobe Photoshop or Premiere as necessary to enhance images and edit videos. Experience and expertise with After Effects is a plus.

Pitch ideas to Digital and Brand Strategy Team.

Develop compelling video storyboards to create a variety of videos that include footage, motion graphics, animations and interviews.

Write copy, captions, or headings to accompany photos/video for digital publishing.

Maintain and exploit your curiosity for capturing Duke through imagery in different and interesting ways while identifying emerging tools and technologies that best support the format of the story.

Understand and implement set design, lighting, camera placement, microphone usage and talent management. Be able to quickly assess the best way to capture photos and video in any situation, quickly improvising and solving problems as they arise.

Employ creative and specialized knowledge, methods, and techniques of videography, photography, motion graphics, audio design.

Provide leadership to the campus community and communicator across campus through the participation in photography and video working groups.

Assist internal and external clients with photographic needs to include identifying and defining needs, recommending photographic techniques and approaches to help communicate intended message and create desired effect, planning photo sessions, and advising on other professional and artistic subjects related to uses and applications of photography.

Counsel on video and photographic capabilities; stay abreast of new capabilities and advise as to possible applications.

Maintain extensive and current library of quality photographic images representing all aspects of life on Duke University campus.

Disseminate imagery to media outlets as directed.

Required Qualifications at this Level Education/Training:

Work requires considerable knowledge of photographic techniques, materials, processes, image editing software, and equipment generally obtained through two years of post-secondary training in photography.

Experience: Work requires three years of videography and photography experience to become proficient in performing a variety of creative, artistic and skilled photographic activities. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Work requires the ability to perform creative writing and related activities such as conducting interviews and research, and copy editing normally acquired through attainment of a bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or a related discipline.

Experience

Work requires two years of directly related writing experience. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
