WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (DESCRIPTION):
An employee in this class plans, coordinates, and implements a variety of cultural art programs and events serving diverse populations including children, youth, teen and adults. Work involves considerable arts planning, booking talent and art exhibits, negotiating contracts for instructors and artists, and performers. Work involves researching needs and interests regarding the arts in Apex, planning, coordinating, and scheduling of classes, day camps, performing arts, concerts, and other events; maintaining budget for assigned programs; and contact with participants, community groups, and contracted staff/artists. The employee is responsible for curating the art work on display at the Halle, to include recruiting artists, managing contracts, displaying art, hosting gallery openings and marketing the gallery program. Work also includes serving as staff liaison to the Public Art Committee. Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and policies, and requires judgmental discretion in the planning and delivery of service. Employees are subject to regulations on protections from bloodborne pathogens, and may be subject to hazards in parks and recreation including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather. Work is under the general supervision of the Halle Cultural Arts Center Manager and is evaluated in terms of program effectiveness, through observation and through discussions surrounding public acceptance.
SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS (DUTIES & TASKS):
- Plans and requests budget needs.
- Purchases supplies and materials for designated program area.
- Responds to concerns, complaints and questions from citizens and program participants.
- Assists other program staff in with special events or departmental programs during the year.
- Prepares regular and special reports as required.
Additional Job Duties:
- Serves on departmental or Town committees and subcommittees.
- Serves as back-up for customer service staff.
- Performs related duties as required.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED (MINIMUM MUST-HAVES):
A valid driver’s license & graduation from an accredited university with a Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, art management, or related degree and experience in recreational and art programming related to area of assignment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
WITH THE ABILITY TO...(KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES):
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of recreational and educational programs for assigned program area (cultural arts).
- Working knowledge of organizational policies and procedures related to budgeting, purchasing, and personnel.
- Ability to effectively plan, execute and evaluate a variety of programs and activities.
- Ability to understand and work with different age groups and to assess needs and interests of potential program participants.
- Ability to plan and coordinate the work of limited service workers and volunteers.
- Ability to express ideas effectively and communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, citizens, employees and other public and private groups and agencies.
- Ability to plan and coordinate the work of part-time and volunteer staff.
- Working knowledge of the application of information technology to the work performed.
WHAT WOULD SET YOU APART (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS):
In addition to the must-haves listed above, it would be great if you happen to have:
- Possession of or ability to obtain certification in C.P.R., first aid, and defibrillator usage.
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, talking, and hearing.
- Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, perform extensive reading, utilize measuring devices, and inspect the activities and work of others.
