Early Childhood Substitutes

We are seeking to add flexible substitutes to our on-call list to support mixed age toddler and preschool classrooms for children 18 months up to six years old. This is an on-call position where we will reach out to you as needed to provide coverage when our full-time educators are out sick or on vacation. Hours for this position and days worked vary based on the needs of the program. The Substitute Teacher role is a great opportunity to gain some experience at a small, non-profit, high-quality early childhood program. Many of our substitutes ultimately transition into full-time educators when openings become available.

Program Description:

Founded in the late 70's, The Learning Center is a place where children and teachers develop a love of learning through thoughtful play and exploration, in a respectful and compassionate environment. We are inspired by the early childhood principles of New Zealand, Canada and Reggio Emilia, Italy. We foster a connection to nature through playful learning and provide a flexible rhythm where children freely flow from the indoor classroom to the outdoor classroom during extended periods of each day.

Essential Functions:

• Follow the lead of other teachers and reflect a similar style and tone of interactions with children.
• Be responsive to children's individual interests and ways of learning and exploring.
• Support children's appropriate risk-taking and adventurous play.
• Help set up, organize and clean up the indoor and outdoor classroom.
• Facilitate problem-solving and conflict resolution in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate manner.
• Demonstrate respect for children, parents and colleagues.
• Show curiosity and a desire for life-long learning.
• Be reliable and consistently punctual.

Position Qualifications:

• Be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
• Possess 12 semester units or equivalent in Early Childhood Education, including Core units OR a minimum of 6 semester units or equivalent in Early Childhood Education while currently enrolled in ECE classes
• Fingerprint Background Clearance
• Current TB Test and Health Screening
• Proof of Pertussis and Measles Immunizations and Flu Shot or Declination of Flu Vaccine
• Two References

Salary: $25 to $28/hour

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
• On call
