Job description
Summary
The Exercise Specialist leads “Return to Sports” and other community based programs in Rehabilitation Services. This position involves working with Physical Therapists to develop and implement comprehensive exercise programs to improve strength, balance, coordination, and cardiovascular fitness as well as sport specific exercises to prepare individuals to return to sport and recreational activities. Duties also include educating participants on exercise safety and injury prevention.
Education
Four years of formal training or education beyond the high school level (e.g., Bachelors Degree).
Certification, Registration & Licensure
Certification required: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification, or equivalent course credentialed by American Heart Association.
Experience
One year of experience as an Exercise Specialist or Personal Trainer preferred. Must possess knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.
Responsibilities

Conducts initial program screening assessments and develops exercise programs for participants.

Documents sessions according to departmental guidelines.

Demonstrates group exercise leadership skills.

Provides group and individual exercise education.

Assesses participants’ response to exercise.

Maintains a safe and clean exercise environment for classes.
