Feed & Seed Inspector-South Central
The Bureau of Feed and Seed provides consumer protection and ensures a fair/equitable marketplace through facility and product inspection, along with product sampling and analysis.
SALARY: $41,514.62 - $44,000.16 annually (includes full state benefit package)
LOCATION: Our program is looking for a Feed and Seed Inspector in the South-Central area of Missouri: (Camden, Dallas, Dent, Douglas, Howell, Laclede, Maries, Miller, Ozark, Phelps, Polk, Pulaski, Texas, Webster or Wright counties).
Applicant must reside in one of the counties listed or be willing to relocate.
What you’ll be doing:
- Daily travel (vehicle provided) in assigned region (15 counties) to inspect Missouri feed and seed establishments for compliance with Missouri’s Commercial Feed Law, Missouri’s Seed Law, USDA, and FDA federal statues governing product manufacture, labeling and distribution.
- Collects feed and seed samples for laboratory analysis. Advises feed manufacturers of required labeling standards; inspects feed and seed products for proper labeling.
- Issues withdrawal-from-distribution and stop-sale orders on products which are not in compliance with labeling and registration requirements; ensures timely compliance with imposed enforcement actions and investigates complaints.
- Responsibility for inspection of federal animal food safety rules for preventative controls and current good management practices in feed facilities.
- Utilizes computer to write inspection reports, withdrawal from distribution orders, sample reports and other reports as required.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, business or public administration, biological sciences or a closely related field OR four (4) or more years of relevant experience.
Required: Exceptional written and oral communication skills, ability to use laptop computer and software, possession of a valid Missouri Driver’s License, ability to lift 50 pounds and ability to obtain FDA credentials.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional or technical experience in the feed, seed or agriculture industry which affords a knowledge of the manufacture, sale and distribution of commercial feed and seed or experience as a feed and seed inspector with an official state agency.
