FRUIT PACKERS

Field Rep

SUMMARY – Works directly with apple and cherry growers who package and market fruit through Columbia Fruit Packers. Advise on current horticultural practices and share warehouse information pertinent to growers’ needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Knowledge of best practices for horticulture and current use of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizer
  • Frequent travel to orchards throughout central Washington
  • Provide timely crop estimates.
  • Contact new growers for the purpose of obtaining tonnage for warehouse to pack and marketing agency to sell.
  • Collect necessary documents and records required by multiple agencies for timely packaging and sales of grower’s fruit.
  • Maintain proper safety and license requirements.
  • Organize annual grower meeting.
  • Ensure compliance and record keeping in accordance with guidelines required to maintain Food Safety Certification.
  • Work schedule during seasons where attention to growers is necessary on weekends and holidays.

  • Comply with all company policies, as well as State and Federal OSHA, EPA, FDA,

USDA, HACCP and SQF regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in horticulture or related field. Equivalent experience may substitute for degree.
  • Minimum three years’ experience as Field Rep.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Experience with apple and cherry growing and maturity.

  • WSDA Consultant / Private Applicator License.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office computer skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
  • Self-motivated / self-starter, team player and can-do attitude.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Hearing and speaking – face to face communications.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk.
  • Sitting for long periods of time while driving.
  • Vision – Near for detail and depth perception for safety and accuracy. Color.
  • Full manual dexterity – reach, grab, hold, push-pull, finger and hand operated tools, keyboard.
  • Full body flexibility to have access to fruit – climb, stretch, kneel, bend, reach, etc.
  • Ability to maneuver 50 lbs.
  • May be exposed to extreme heat in excess of 100°F during summer months.
