Grounds Maintenance Laborer

Major Areas of Responsibility:
Responsible for all the landscape and hardscape maintenance around the DCMA building to include: mowing, trimming, blowing, hedges, minor tree pruning, parking lot cleaning, sidewalk cleaning, entryway and vestibule debris cleanup, weed pulling, litter patrol daily, etc. for the grounds.

Specific Responsibilities of the Job:

• Perform grounds keeping and building maintenance duties.
• Trim hedges and edges around walks, flowerbeds, and wells using hedge trimmers, clippers and edging tools.
• Cut lawn using hand, power or riding mower and trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls.
• Landscape by planting flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes.
• Apply pesticide to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitos, wasps, ticks, and others.
• Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears and other hand tools.
• Sweep walkway of debris; removes snow from walks, driveways, roads, or parking lots using shovel and snow blowers.
• Cut down tree limbs that are posing a danger.
• Repairs and paints fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails and outbuildings.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in grounds keeping.
• Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed.
• Water plants and grass as needed and apply fertilizer to enhance growth.
• Assist in general maintenance duties as required such as: repair of roads, walks, buildings, and mechanical equipment.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Experience, Education, Skills, and Knowledge:

• Ability to lift items weighing upwards to 75 lbs.
• Ability to perform multiple duties as assigned.
• Basic knowledge of equipment safety procedures.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record required.
