Sheldon I.S.D. is searching for a High School Principal who will be committed to the development of an instructional program that aligns with our vision of being a premier and well-rounded school district. SISD desires a innovative, transformational leader who will design and create personalized learning opportunities that help students successfully develop skills for college and/or a career.
Sheldon I.S.D., located on the northeast side of Houston, is considered a fast-growth 6A district with a current enrollment of approximately 11,000 students. C. E. King high school campus is comprised of six academies that are focused on college and career readiness. These academies include an Early College High School Academy; T-STEM Academy; Business and Industry Academy; Human Services Academy; Public Services Academy; and Agriculture, Manufacturing, and Construction Academy.
Primary Purpose
- Has a vision for student learning and is able to share this vision with teachers, students and parents
- Practices effective instructional leadership when he/she initiates and guides conversations about instruction and student learning that are oriented towards high expectations and concrete goals
- Sets high standards for the professional practice of instruction and assessment that result in an accountable environment
- Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment by leading and participating in meetings with other principals, teachers and parents pertaining to these topics
- Demonstrates knowledge of Small Learning Communities (SLCs) or Academy concept and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) resulting in highly engaging instruction and improved student learning on coursework, TSI, ACT/SAT and state assessments
- Supports teachers to move the teaching and learning process from information delivery to discovery and problem solving processes
- Ensures that there is an appropriate and logical alignment between the curriculum of the school and the state's accountability system
- Understands the state accountability system and creates processes to monitor each component of the system
- Understands House Bill 5, House Bill 4545 and the impact of CCMR on the state accountability system
- Creates a culture of collaboration and teamwork
- Creates processes for collecting and using student test data and other formative data from other sources for the improvement of instruction
- Ensures that the campus has processes and systems in place for effective and efficient operations that lead to positive student outcomes
- Oversees the development and delivery of secondary instructional programs that incorporate district goals, state TEKS and support student achievement in postsecondary education and careers.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in educational administration
- Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
- Certified T-TESS appraiser

Experience
- Experience as a middle school or high school principal is preferred
- Three years experience in instructional leadership roles (secondary assistant principal experience is required)
- Experience collaborating with an institute of higher education is preferred
- School start-up, turnaround, or redesign experience is preferred
- Requires experience recruiting and hiring teachers who meet the needs of an at-risk population
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions
- Regularly consult the campus-level committee about planning, operation, supervision and evaluation of program
- Lead and monitor curriculum and instructional practices
- Monitor lesson planning and delivery to ensure the alignment of curriculum, instruction and assessment
- Develop, maintain, and use information systems, records and student assessment program to show progress on performance as well as college readiness and success in advanced courses
- Provide, evaluate, and continuously improve staff and faculty professional development
- Develop a fair and consistent student discipline management system
- Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit its support in realizing district’s mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
