The Department of Human Behavior at CSN delivers a range of certificates and diplomas in Psychology, Anthropology, and Sociology, as well as university transfer service courses to CSN students.

The Department of Human Behavior invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Psychology instructor. Candidates willing to make teaching the primary focus with superior preparation and ongoing engagement in their academic and professional fields and a dedication to diversity awareness are encouraged to apply.

Teaching assignments will be primarily live, on-ground classes and may be located at any of the three main campuses. These may include morning, afternoon, or evening classes.

Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Teach 30 credit hours per year (15 credit hours in each of the Fall and Spring semesters). Demonstrated ability to effectively teach multiple sections of PSY 101 - General Psychology each semester is essential, as well as the ability to teach additional Psychology courses offered by the Department.
  • Develop syllabi, course materials, and evaluate student mastery of course objectives, skills, and competencies as required by established course outcomes and/or program and department rubrics.
  • Provide student advising; participate in recruitment activities, and collaboratively engage in program/curriculum development.
  • Participate in Program, Department, and School meetings and activities; and serve on Department and College committees.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Psychology from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience within the last 4 years as the primary instructor. This must include on-ground teaching of psychology course(s) equivalent to those offered by CSN.
  • Ability to teach a variety of undergraduate level courses in the field of Psychology.
  • Proficiency using course learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, etc.
  • Demonstrated appreciation for diversity in higher education.
  • A commitment to teaching community college students.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal training in post-secondary teaching.
  • Experience teaching psychology courses as the instructor of record at a community college in the past 4 years.
  • Experience developing psychology classes at the community college level.
  • Experience teaching a variety of psychology courses.
  • Five or more years' experience teaching undergraduate psychology courses as the instructor of record - excluding graduate teaching assistantships.
  • College service within the past 4 years.
  • Psychology related professional or community service within the past 4 years.
  • Psychology related scholarly activities and professional development (academic research (other than graduate thesis or dissertation research) within the past 4 years.

Starting Salary Range

Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a master's degree, the salary range would be $46,691 to $59,768 annually. The entire salary range is up to $71,123 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years of experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for initial salary placement purposes.

Candidates selected for interviews will be required to do a 10-15-minute teaching demonstration as part of the interview on a topic of their choice.

The finalist candidate must provide official transcripts.
