Position Title
International Student Advisor

Job Responsibilities
The Office of International Education at Truman State University is looking for an engaging International Student Advisor to enhance the transition, integration and success of international students on campus. The position reports to the Executive Director of International Education and performs a broad range of duties designed to meet the needs of international students and fulfill the reporting requirements of the institution.

The successful candidate is expected to perform the following duties:
  • Advise international students on academic, immigration and adjustment issues
  • Interpret and apply federal regulations and processes pertinent to F-1 & J-1 visa statuses
  • Report and maintain the SEVIS federal database for international students
  • Serve as an F-1 Program Designated School Official (DSO) and a J-1 Program Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO)
  • Develop orientation materials and processes for new international students
  • Advocate for the needs of international students
  • Collaborate with entities across campus to integrate international students into the Truman community
  • Monitor progress of international students and provide timely intervention and referrals as needed
  • Supervise student employees
  • Update international student web pages
  • Update international students via newsletter and social media
  • Teach a one-credit block course “Strategies for International Student Success” each semester for new international students
  • Undertake domestic and international travel if needed
  • Participate in professional development opportunities
  • Occasional weekend and evening hours when needed



Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Must be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident and must be able to pass a background check

  • Excellent written and presentation skills
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Salary
The salary for this position starts at $33,000.
