BASIC FUNCTION
The Junior Graphic Designer will be responsible for working alongside the Senior Graphic Designer in creating engaging design solutions that have a high visual impact according to the University’s branding requirements. The Junior Graphic Designer will demonstrate creativity, up-to-date knowledge of industry software, and a professional approach to feedback, time, costs, and deadlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand project requirements and concepts.
- Use various techniques to create designs for review and take on special design tasks.
- Pitch creative ideas and produce final design solutions.
- Collaborate with team members to launch projects.
- Meet regularly with Senior Graphic Designer to assess priorities and work in progress. Obtains approval of concepts by submitting rough layouts, timelines, and estimates for approval to Senior Graphic Designer and AVP of University Marketing and Communications.
- Conceptualizes assignments by designing rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetic concepts as per specified media requirements. Adjusts and collaborates on designs and copy according to direction provided by stakeholders.
- Maintain standards for accuracy, consistency, and general quality in representing VTSU to internal and external audiences.
- Works within existing VTSU brand guidelines and designs to version out print collateral, image-based e-mails, and digital assets for our website and social media channels.
- Works within existing PowerPoint templates to create beautiful and legible presentations for our sales department.
- Works well as part of a collaborative team, and directly with Senior Graphic Designer, AVP of Marketing and Communications, and outside agencies (when necessary).
- Establish and adhere to standard protocols for naming, storing, and managing digital assets, including design files and photos.
- Keep abreast of emerging communications and marketing technologies.
- Gather information and materials needed from designated individuals to accomplish tasks. Establish and maintain relationships throughout the university with faculty, staff, and students.
- Maintain excellent organization and communication (both written and verbal) standards.
- Adhere to communications project management system to prioritize projects and track process.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Supervision provided by the Senior Graphic Designer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related program, one to three years of experience as a graphic designer, and experience with design software and graphics editing tools, including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). Or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

- Demonstrated understanding of design principles and visual elements.
- Experience in packaging, print and digital graphic design.
- Passionate about design and eager to learn more.
- Commitment to developing own professional knowledge and the professional knowledge of team members regarding diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice and how it informs practices within area of expertise.
Skills:
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
- A keen eye for detail.
- Proofreads to ensure accurate and high-quality work.
- Strong typography skills.
- Strong photography and photo editing skills.
- Comfortable using an Adobe InDesign and Illustrator workflow for print projects.

Location: Any of the five Vermont State campuses; hybrid arrangements considered.
