Librarian/Digital Literacy & Computer Science Teacher

Qualifications:

  • Massachusetts Library Educator Licensure with a Master's degree or higher required
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated experience in successful teaching in the school library media setting preferably at the level required
  • Demonstrated competency in automated library management systems and electronic research
  • Demonstrated competency in technology using standard applications and the Internet
  • Such other alternatives as the Superintendent of Schools may deem acceptable and appropriate

Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)


  • Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and discerning technology literate ethical users of information
  • Develop curricula and learning experiences that incorporate authentic student discovery to inspire curiosity, creativity, and innovation
  • Plan instruction that enriches and extends classroom instruction and integrate the Library Curriculum, information and media literacy and educational technology
  • Facilitate learning through a maker mindset encouraging an iterative process for learning and making meaning
  • Instruct students and staff in the effective and ethical uses of the library and its resources and how they can continue access when not at school
  • Collaborate with colleagues in planning units, lessons, and activities that encourage students' exploration of their interests and allow them to uncover relevant information to extend their understandings and generate new ones
  • Assist students and teachers in the selection of instructional materials, both print and electronic
  • Advocate for and promote literacy, communication, and life-long learning through sustained access to curated materials, both digital and print
  • Model and encourage the school’s use of instructional technology, social media, and on-demand content to enhance learning
  • Manage and supervise the library facility, its budget, and its programs through selection of resources that build a relevant collection with staff and students
  • Maintain a vibrant, welcoming, and flexible environment within the learning community to foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and experimentation
  • Maintain a positive and thoughtful approach to classroom management
  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date, and accessible inventory of resources
  • Ensure the library collection represents a diverse and multicultural range of authors and topics
  • Maintain a collection that aligns with state recommended guidelines for size, age, relevance, and variety
  • Develop and maintain library procedures
  • Maintain currency in state and local content standards, dispositions, recommended practices, and interdisciplinary connections
  • Grow in the position through attendance at meetings, conferences, and seminars as well as through readings in professional literature and enrollment in college or university courses
  • Such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal/Supervising Administrator.
