Maintenance Assistant


Position Title: Maintenance Assistant

Status: Full-Time, Non-exempt
Department: Maintenance
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Quakertown, PA


Job Summary


The Maintenance Assistant provides support to the Maintenance Department as well as various production processes at Moyer’s Hatchery. Variation in start times and length of shifts may be required from season to season.


Role and Responsibilities

  • Follows all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the tasks of setting, transferring, and hatching eggs
  • Communicates all issues or concerns with the Manager
  • Helps clean up workspace, cabinets, and plastics after tasks are completed and ensures sanitation standards are met
  • Repairs and monitors incubation carts
  • Completes monthly checks of hatching and incubation machines
  • Completes morning machine readouts
  • Cleans and replaces HVAC filters
  • Maintains dust collection/air purifier system
  • Completes daily generator check: oil, block heater, antifreeze, fuel level, etc.
  • Keeps boot baths filled and clean
  • Completes various tasks and projects throughout the facility when needed
  • Unloads trucks when needed
  • Operates pallet jack
  • Practices good housekeeping throughout facility
  • Responds to on-call alarms
    • Responsible for timely response to all alarms
    • Troubleshoots and resolves alarm issues
    • Reaches out for assistance if needed
  • Assists maintenance department with tasks and projects as needed
  • Maintains and repairs power washer: hoses, guns, etc.
  • Runs errands and/or gathers supplies from local retailers when needed
  • Performs all other tasks as assigned by management

Job Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
  • High School diploma or GED preferred

  • This position may require heavy lifting, up to 60 lbs.
