Job description
The Lactation Consultant is a professional with postpartum and nursery experience who assumes responsibility for assessing needs, planning, implementing and evaluating breastfeeding education for lactating mothers as well as Maternal Child nursing staff. Additional responsibilities include educating mothers who plan to breastfeed, monitoring of all infants at risk for delayed breast feeding, and assisting the high risk mother / infant pair.

Qualifications:
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Required.
- Graduated from an accredited school with a Bachelor's Degree (Nutrition or Nursing preferred).
- Experience with Neonatal Intensive Care preferred.
- BLS required, NRP certification preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Provides consultation in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to mothers of patients in the NICU regarding management of breastfeeding to promote optimal patient outcomes
- Provides resource and consultative services to health professionals and community.
- Educates staff regarding basic and complex breastfeeding management
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team in monitoring breastfeeding progress of mothers and modifying the plan of care as required to promote optimal outcomes.
- Collaborates with the NICU staff to develop policies and procedures as needed for donor milk, breastfeeding equipment and resources.
- Participates in performance and quality improvement activities/outcomes projects.
- Facilitates referrals to other health professionals, community services and support groups as needed.
- Develop educational programs for families and staff
- Manage Donor Milk Program (including usage statistics)
- Assists in the management of breast pump and supply rentals.
