Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO), an LLC of Bechtel, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Nuclear Safety Program Manager to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.
The successful candidate will support the Nuclear Safety Engineering team. The successful candidate will review documents and procedures, Project Safety Design Evaluations (DOE-STD-1189), High Material at Risk (MAR) evaluations, changes to the WIPP Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) documents. The candidate will also support operations in implementation of Safety Basis changes, and will manage day-to-day activities and long-term assignments of the WIPP Nuclear Safety Group. This candidate will perform regular reviews of the Nuclear Safety personnel and will provide for career development of these individuals. Requires interaction and coordination with various site organizations, e.g., Engineering, Work Control, Operations, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Packaging and Transportation, and Regulatory Environmental Services. Expectation includes: Assigning and overseeing Nuclear Safety personnel for addressing compliance issues from internal and external sources, overseeing internal and external reviews of nuclear safety programs, following corrective actions through completion or resolution, and mentoring of Junior Nuclear Safety Analysts in Safety Basis development and maintenance. In addition, this candidate will direct, review, and approve NS program initiatives.
Exempt Salary Grade (36-40)
Minimum Qualifications: These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.
- Bachelor's Degree with ten (10) years of relevant experience (experience must include a minimum of 10 years experience-based knowledge of WIPP operations and a minimum of 10 years experience in Nuclear Safety), or
- Associate's Degree with fourteen (14) years of relevant experience (experience must include a minimum of 10 years experience-based knowledge of WIPP operations and a minimum of 14 years experience in Nuclear Safety), or
- High School Diploma or equivalency with eighteen (18) years of relevant experience (experience must include a minimum of 10 years experience-based knowledge of WIPP operations and a minimum of 18 years experience in Nuclear Safety).
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Science or Engineering.
- Experience with regulatory requirements (in addition to Nuclear Safety).
- Experience with technical writing and good oral communication skills.
Starting salary $124,825 per year*
- Base salary will be dependent upon candidate's background (i.e. education and experience).
