Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary: This position is responsible for providing assistance to case managers and offenders with regard to housing in the Wichita/Sedgwick County parole office. This position will deliver pre-and-post-release services, including aftercare, related to housing. This position will also develop relationships with landlords, property managers, housing services agencies, and property developers, to increase the housing options available to offenders in Wichita/Sedgwick County.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Serve as Housing Specialist for Sedgwick County, and as facility Housing Liaision to Correctional Facilities, by being main point of contact and assistance for housing referrals, placements and other support to help find safe, affordable housing for returning offenders or offenders under supervision in the community currently for Sedgwick County, working closely with parole and reentry staff to identify needs, and address housing issues in the context of the full case as a member of a multi-discipline team.
Make contacts in the community to develop housing opportunities for offenders. Serve as point of contact for landlords to address issues, concerns, trouble shoot, etc., to sustain housing for offenders. Also establish relationships with housing services providers, government and not-for-profit, to enhance access of offenders to public housing and housing services.
Work with staff engaged in case management for high risk/need co-occurring offenders to help establish housing as part of a supportive housing model. Work with facility and parole staff to increase their skill and ability in addressing housing, developing a housing plan, identify and address barriers to housing, and otherwise participate in addressing housing for offenders.
Oversee Transitional housing units and the memorandum of agreement for these units, as directed by the Reentry Administrator.
Train and work with mentors who will delivery housing services.
Record work done about housing in Athena. Track what services were provided to which offenders and provide a monthly update to the Reentry Administrator.

Qualifications
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
Licensing & Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Minimum Qualifications: Six months of experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the agency's programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and one (1) year of experience working with offenders in corrections, parole, or law enforcement. Or 60 semester hours of college credit, with twelve (12) hours in corrections or related field, and three (3) years of experience working with offenders in corrections.
Experience working with offenders or other at-risk-for homeless or homeless populations
Experience with community advocacy.
Experience with making referrals and/or placements to community resources, especially related to housing.
Knowledge of the housing services providers/system at the federal, state and local level.
Experience developing community resources for special needs offenders, especially in regards to housing and job options.
Demonstrated skill of problem solving.
Demonstrated skill in multi-tasking.
Organizational skills.
Comfortable working as part of a team.
Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access.Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must pass a background check and drug screen upon hire.
