Title : PostGres DB Administrator

Location : Fort Worth, TX, 50% office (Hybrid)

Contract

Looking for a Database Administrator (DBA) contractor for staff augmentation purposes to help architect and manage its Azure-based CosmosDB and PostgreSQL database environments. The position will be responsible for on-going database administration of existing environments including defining, planning, implementing, and supporting BNSF’s cloud-based CosmosDB and PostgreSQL databases for the enterprise. Azure, CosmosDB and PostgreSQL experience is mandatory.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs basic and intermediate level Database Administration tasks in Cosmos DB and PostgreSQL in Azure.
• Designs and builds simple to complex database structures from data models.
• Performs deployments and configurations of CosmosDB and PostgreSQL in Azure.
• Performs configuring Azure key vaults, service principles, etc
• Performs backups, data recovery and data migration activities as needed.
• Participates in 24/7 on-call support.
• Performs cloud native application development.
• Participates in design reviews as required to ensure database design meets application requirements.
• Interfaces with customers to gather requirements and provide production support.
• Provides subject matter expertise and reports to auditors as required.
• Proactively performs database monitoring and performance tuning tasks.
• Identify and provide solutions to performance issues in multiple database environments.
• Reviews and enforces adherence to the BNSF Architecture, as well as database design and usage standards.
• Understands cloud-base database technologies and guides BNSF in implementing appropriate solutions.
• Coaches other team members on how to perform database administration in Azure CosmosDB and PostgreSQL technologies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Required
• B.S. degree from an accredited university.
• 3 years of experience in database administration with Azure and CosmosDB and PostgreSQL database technologies.
• 2 years of hands-on experience in Azure processes such as deploying and scaling databases.
• 2 years of experience with CITUS extension for PostgreSQL HA clusters running in Azure.
• 1 year of experience with data connectors between Azure PostgreSQL and on-prem services and systems.
• 6 years of experience in database problem identification, problem diagnosis and resolution.
• 5 years of experience in database/application performance tuning and monitoring tools.
• Candidate has excellent communication – ability to explain a technical problem to various roles including management.
• Candidate is a team player who shares knowledge and coaches team members.
• Experience and success in working on a high performing team and deliver under pressure situations.

Preferred

• Knowledge in coding practices and cloud native application development and testing.
• Knowledge in GitHub repository technology.
• Functional experience in the development of railroad application systems would be desirable.

Job Type: Contract

Salary: $50.00 - $55.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
