Department/Program Summary:
The Alliance for Securing Democracy (ASD), a nonpartisan initiative housed at the German Marshall Fund of the United States, develops comprehensive strategies to deter, defend against, and raise the costs on autocratic efforts to undermine and interfere in democratic institutions. ASD brings together experts on disinformation, malign finance, emerging technologies, elections integrity, economic coercion, and cybersecurity, as well as Russia, China, and the Middle East, to collaborate across traditional stovepipes and develop cross-cutting frameworks.
Job Summary:
As a member of the Alliance for Securing Democracy at GMF (ASD at GMF) team, the Program Assistant will support the program with a variety of administrative and substantive activities. Specifically, they will assist with programming and day-to-day administration of the Program, including preparation of public documents (including ASD at GMF’s weekly newsletter), event coordination, financial and funding reporting, database maintenance, scheduling, and fundraising support.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Draft ASD at GMF’s widely read weekly newsletter
- Support other ASD at GMF staff in preparing for briefings, presentations, and other outreach events
- Help pitch, plan, and execute outreach events for DC-focused discussions as well as for events across the United States
- Support fundraising activities, including drafting grant reports and proposals
- Draft updates to donors and Advisory Council members on ASD at GMF activity and coordinate donor metric tracking
- Post to and update the ASD at GMF website and draft some social media posts
- Handle administrative duties for the program including scheduling, invoices, and event support
- Assist ASD at GMF staff with other projects, as requested
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Excellent writing, speaking, and editing skills in English
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, growing, and team-based environment
- A demonstrable interest or background in national security, democracy as well as a familiarity with ASD at GMF’s work on analyzing autocratic efforts to undermine democracy
- Prior work or internship experience (approximately six months to two years) in a think tank, public sector, or non-profit setting, preferably with program assistant experience
- Strong event organization and management skills, with superb attention to detail and an ability to meet rapid, multiple deadlines in a fast-paced team-orientated environment
- Strong computer skills are required, including experience with Microsoft office and database management
