The Public Works Department has a fantastic opportunity for a talented individual to join our team and serve the County of Colusa! In this role you will supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for providing maintenance, repair and construction of County roads within the Public Works Department; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list to fill other openings without reposting.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Materials, methods, practices and equipment used in road maintenance and repair activities.

Elements of construction technology as they related to the assigned construction maintenance and repair activities.

Rules and regulations of encroachment permits.

Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.

Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.

Principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting.

Basic arithmetic.

Safe work practices.

Ability to:

Coordinate the operations of a road operations program.

Assign and supervise the work of crews engaged in equipment operation and road maintenance and repair work.

Perform a variety of skilled tasks in road and bridge maintenance.

Maintain records and prepare reports.

Supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Experience and Training Guidelines—Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Four years of increasingly responsible experience in performing road construction and maintenance duties, including two years of supervisory or lead responsibility.

Training:

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in construction technology or a related field.

License or Certificate

Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
