Job Summary

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Advancement Officer is charged with comprehensive responsibility for the planning, oversight, and execution of all aspects of fundraising, grant writing, event planning, communication, and donor engagement. The Advancement Officer is expected to accomplish the overall mission and vision of Mountain Song Community School through inspirational and strategic leadership that reflects the Waldorf method and the school culture of integrity, moral character and a holistic sense of responsibility.

Reports to: Executive Director

Job Status: Regular 0.5 - 0.6 FTE Exempt

Annual Base Salary Range: $25,000 - $30,000 plus fundraising incentive

Major Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

  • Develop and implement strategies for growth. Review goal progress, implement new processes when necessary, and provide feedback on how to refine and project management tasks.
  • Use sales and spending cycles to guide fundraising campaign decisions
  • Find ideal donors from the MSCS community as well as public and private donors
  • Create a respectful reputation for the school in regard to fundraising and development
  • Cultivate new donor relationships while nurturing ongoing ones
  • Write content to earn grants

Fundraising:

  • Develop, implement and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to include, but not limited to: an annual fund, capital campaigns, grant writing and the Indy Give! Campaign.
  • Designing campaigns, procuring materials and executing various marketing campaigns to support fundraising efforts.
  • Identifying, researching and contacting foundations for foundational grants
  • Work to accomplish fundraising goals

Donor Communications, Events and Donor Relations:

  • Create content and strategy for donor communication and relationship development. Work with the Communications Coordinator to create content for donor consumption. Identify new fundraising opportunities and prospects.
  • Plan and execute all Development Communications such as emails, newsletters, appeals, stewardship materials, acknowledgment letters, and the annual report. In close collaboration with the Communications Coordinator, coordinate and execute engagement strategy.
  • Prospect new foundation and corporate possibilities. Oversee the creation and submission of letters of inquiry and grant proposals and the maintenance of reporting and other current grantee requirements.
  • Work alongside the Director of School Performance to create marketing collateral to be used during initial school tours which include the benefits of the fundraising efforts as well as a list of current donors.
  • Plan, strategically coordinate, and execute engagement and development programming for all constituents (parents, alumni, and friends), including Capital Campaigns and Annual Funds.

Database

  • Oversee and utilize donor database to allow for the following:Data enrichment

Analytics to provide reporting on fundraising performance
Assist with automatic messaging efforts
Online payment processing
Wealth analytics and prospect research
Crowdfunding and social engagement
Donor stewardship

Essential Qualifications and Personal Attributes

  • Demonstrated track record of progressively responsible fundraising experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of fund development (major/planned giving), with the ability to organize, create and implement development efforts through use of marketing techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Position requires creativity, decision-making, interpersonal skills, use of discretion, teamwork, negotiation, independent judgment/ action, problem analysis, service orientation, and public relations to foster the School’s relations.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects/priorities.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends and travel locally.
  • Perform basic math and be proficient with various software to allow for ability to learn donor-specific software.
  • Knowledge of calculator, basic computer software and all basic office equipment is required

Work Environment

Ability to work within a team and cooperatively with the School, the Board of Directors and prospectus donors. Hybrid. Flexible part-time hours.
