Summary:

We are seeking a highly talented and motivated synthetic chemist to join our Exploratory Chemistry group at DTx Pharma, San Diego, CA. This individual will be responsible for planning, designing, and executing multi-step synthesis including purification and compound characterization. Active collaboration with colleagues across disciplines, participation in project team meetings, and contribution toward creative problem solving are all encouraged.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:

• Perform multi-step organic syntheses from mg to multi gram scale, compound purification, and structural characterization
• Develop new chemistries, for example, the design and execution of novel synthesis chemistries involving nucleic acids, or solid phase reactions
• Create novel derivatized supports for the use in solid-phase synthesis
• Synthesis and purification of oligonucleotide conjugates using proprietary chemistries and ligands
• Trouble-shoot and optimization of oligonucleotide synthesis and purification processes for oligonucleotides containing novel modified nucleic acids
• Operation and maintenance of oligonucleotide synthesis and purification equipment
• Working collaboratively with other members of the chemistry and biology teams
• Maintain detailed records of experimental protocols and data in accordance with company policy

Qualifications and Experience:

• MS with at least 5 years of experience or PhD with 0-2 years lab experience in synthetic organic/medicinal chemistry or nucleoside modifications
• A comprehensive knowledge of organic synthetic methods, chromatographic techniques, automated flash chromatography
• Experience with common analytical techniques (NMR, HPLC, LC/MS), and HPLC purification techniques are required
• Ability to be highly productive in a fast-paced work environment
• Superior laboratory skills and awareness of laboratory safety
• Excellent verbal, written and communication skills are essential
• Strong desire to work in multi-disciplinary teams, and proactively solve problems

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
