Opportunity

A Senior Computer Engineer is responsible for digital, analog, software design/analysis of ARM

based UX platforms.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Identify major categories of work; focus on essential duties.
  • Design, develop, diagnose, and operate complex embedded systems, that include MPUs, Ethernet, Wireless, power management circuitry, CAN, USB, I2C, I2S, A/D, PWM, flash, RAM, etc.
  • Use CAE tools to design and analyze circuit board schematics to specification and work closely with circuit board designers to develop PCB layouts that meet industry standard compliance requirements.
  • Generate specific task definitions, assignments and schedules for the design of electrical and electronic components and subsystems consistent with product specifications and R&D guidelines.
  • Supervise the layout and construction prototypes, first generation products as well as laboratory and production equipment. Coordinate prototype validation, Agency approvals (FCC, UL, CE).
  • Develop embedded software in a number of languages such as C, C++, Python, etc. for MCUs and MPUs on RTOS and Linux based systems.
  • Define, perform and supervise testing of components to determine suitability for a specific application, optimize solutions for cost efficiency.
  • Define, perform and supervise testing for design verification as defined in the product specification and task description. Analyze data and identify potential and actual faults in design, manufacture and quality. Integrate and configure AVTS, Jenkins, and similar automated tools.
  • Design, or assist in designing production test equipment and fixtures. Supervise the testing and qualification of pre-production and production prototypes.
  • Prepare design and cost proposals on new programs.
  • Work with project schedules, specifications, schematics, verbal and written instructions. Specify and use a full range of electronic test equipment, computer hardware and software.
  • Provide technical input to Configuration Management so that appropriate documentation can be provided on a timely basis.
  • Write engineering reports, test reports, procedures, progress reports, application notes.
  • Perform failure analysis studies on a continuing basis and evaluate designs and follow through on needed modifications.
  • Work as part of interdepartmental project team. Act as Engineering Project Leader as assigned.
  • Train and provide technical guidance to technicians assigned to specific projects.
  • Provide technical support to less senior personnel and other operating departments as required, such as Sales, Customer support, Application Engineers, Customers.
  • Contribute in design reviews.
  • Travel to vender and customer sites to provide technical support when required.
  • Inform supervisor of unusual circumstances or problems and perform other related duties as assigned.

Major Challenges


A Senior Computer Engineer is expected to:

  • Perform to a high technical standard in meeting product specifications, schedules, applicable standards and policies.
  • Balance an individual contributor role with providing technical guidance to less senior personnel and advising peers and upper management.
  • Take an active role in assuring that product performance complies with specifications and that problems are identified and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Take responsibility for technical development on and off the job by keeping abreast of the latest technologies and methods.

Skills/Requirements

Education

  • MSEE or MSCE with emphasis on digital circuit design, MCU and MPU, embedded systems design, high level programming languages.

Experience


  • At least five years’ experience as a senior design engineer with project responsibility developing products for moderate to high volume production.
  • Expertise in embedded circuitry design.
  • Knowledge of Design techniques for EMC / ESD
  • Strong C/C++/RTOS/Linux embedded programming skills and experience developing and debugging applications in embedded systems for ARM based microcontrollers and processors.
  • Experience with HMI tools/design, GUI integrated tools/design, capacitive touch LCD technology, IoT and wireless communication, camera interfaces, LCDs, Graphics accelerators
  • Demonstrated ability to work in all phases of the product development process from early
  • development through production and able to apply appropriate analytical and experimental techniques.
  • Familiar with CAE software packages for PCs or workstations. Proficiency in schematic capture (Altium experience is a plus) and strong layout principles knowledge
  • Familiar with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer review
  • Excellent knowledge of OS coding techniques

Skills

  • Well rounded, detail oriented team player with good supervisory and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with engineering and design practices and standards including ISO 9000.
  • Flexible, self-starter with high standards for quality with a hands-on, multi-tasking orientation.
