Our Opportunity

C4 Therapeutics is seeking a highly talented and motivated Senior Research Scientist to join our Process Chemistry team in Technical Operations. Reporting to the Associate Director of Process Chemistry, the Senior Research Scientist will play an integral role in supporting chemical process research for drug substance and drug product. The successful candidate will demonstrate the expertise in designing and developing innovative synthetic routes and processes for the compound production with a focus on improving scalability, efficiency, safety and purity and oversight of external vendors. You will support programs across the C4T portfolio and work in a multidisciplinary team setting to create innovative solutions and contribute to delivering on the promise of transforming the treatment of cancer and other diseases.

The Role

• Support drug substance process research for projects in lead optimization, IND-enabling studies, and clinical development
• Oversee external process research teams for route scouting and scale-up of key intermediates to enable development candidate identification and to identify and understand opportunities for process control points in early development
• Work with external vendors to develop and optimize scalable processes for API manufacturing
• Identify process improvements for drug substance manufacturing and ensure vendor can implement them at scale
• Lead external process research activities, prepare timely documentation, and supervise external vendors and/or CMOs to deliver API to support pre-clinical and clinical studies.
• Identify impurities generated during API manufacturing and stability tests, and develop synthetic routes to prepare these impurities in gram scale
• Provide support and technology transfer to CMOs and oversee manufacturing at CMOs
• Support drafting of documentation for regulatory filings
• Prepare internal research reports and technical presentations

Your Background

• PhD in Chemistry with 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in process chemistry, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above-described responsibilities
• Detailed knowledge in process and analytical chemistry, purification, crystallization, technology transfer, scale-up and manufacture, and cGMP
• Experience in process chemistry R&D, scale-up synthesis
• Ability to organize and analyze complex data for development reports and regulatory filing
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Travel associated with technology transfer and production oversight of CMOs/CROs is required
