City Experiences is seeking a Ship Mechanic for our Seaward Services operation.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

You will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of US Navy vessels’ engineering plants and assist US Navy crew members with technical and mechanical support. You will participate in all types of inspections, repairs, and testing of marine equipment with a demonstrated knowledge of ship operations, reliability engineering, maintenance concepts, programs, and procedures. Work will concentrate at the pier or in the yard, with multiple sea trials throughout the year to test and prepare the vessel for operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Report any problems to the Chief Engineer immediately.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities normally expected of a vessel’s Engineering Mechanic.
  • Operate the vessel appropriate to the parameters of the US Navy.
  • Perform daily/weekly/monthly preventative maintenance as per maintenance schedule.
  • Properly process and pump sewage and oily water tanks when needed.
  • Assist in developing work items, drawings, analysis, costs estimates and technical reports for various ship repair projects.
  • Maintain daily logs.
  • Make emergency repairs when needed.
  • Maintain a safe and clean engine room.
  • Train new engineers as required.
  • Ensure that the performance and behavior of engineers meets legal and professional requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Work well under pressure and acts quickly and decisively using sound judgement
  • Read, analyze and interpret technical journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • General administration and computer skills
  • Additional duties as assigned

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • US Navy or Merchant Marine vocational training preferred.
  • Four (4) years of experience in a US Navy or Merchant Marine engineering rating
  • Have and maintain a valid U.S. Passport.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to develop and execute innovative solutions to engineering problems.
  • Possess and demonstrate superior mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, electronic, and other skills exercised in engineering management of a large motor vessel.
  • Utilize proven training and mentoring techniques.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of all-pertinent regulations and laws.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Logically and independently plan, organize, and complete work assignments.
  • Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Set and achieve high standards of performance.
  • Demonstrate initiative and be able to make progress on multiple assignments under time constraints.
  • Possess excellent analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Marine Gas Turbine Engine experience preferred.
  • Water Jet Experience preferred.
  • Ability to stand and walk on nearly a constant basis; ability to work long hours each day.
  • Ability to bend, rotate and reach frequently.
  • Ability to carry, push/pull and/or lift materials weighing upwards of 50 lbs.
  • Ascending/descending stairs or ladders safely.
  • Ability to manipulate/handle/grip materials required to perform job.
  • Ability to maneuver through/in/around small and/or confined areas within the vessel.
  • Must be able to maintain both static and dynamic standing balance to complete various duties associated with job.
  • Must be capable of performing emergency duties as listed in the vessel’s station bill.
  • Be able to acquire and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Should have a strong practical and theoretical knowledge of main and auxiliary diesel engines and electricity generation systems
  • Knowledge of support systems, plumbing, refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning
  • Experience with diesel generators, reverse osmosis units, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and waterjet propulsion drive trains
