About the Role:
As the Sr. Director, Total Rewards you will oversee both broad-based and executive compensation plans and programs; short- and long-term incentive plans; health, welfare, and wellness plans and programs; the defined contribution retirement plan; and all rewards and recognition plans for Grocery Outlet. You have extensive Total Rewards experience including building programs from the ground up. You will drive innovation in our rewards strategy while leading communications around the value of our total rewards. You are a strategic thinker and have a strong executive presence. You will work cross functionally with various levels of employees and leadership. The Sr. Director, Total Rewards will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer.
Responsibilities Include:
- General: Overall you will reestablish a foundation for Total Rewards across GO, and then refine and enhance as we grow. Your Initial focus is to streamline the processes, recommend relevant offerings based on best practices and build the Total Rewards function to scale with the company as we grow.Design, develop and execute a Total Rewards strategy to attract and retain talent that fits within our mission of Touching Lives for the Better
Provide oversight and leadership to Benefits Manager, Benefits Operations Specialist and Sr. Compensation Analyst
Serve as a member of the HR Leadership Team - Keeping them up to date on all compensation and benefit legislative changes
Evaluate existing programs to recommend new and innovative approaches that are market competitive, effective, and efficient
Lead annual performance review process
Develop and design internal communication strategy – coordinating all materials related to programs
Prepare and present updates to executive leadership, board of directors and compensation committee
Responsible for maintenance of compensation and benefits information in HRIS in collaboration with the HR Operations team
In partnership with Finance and Legal, collect and prepare compensation related data for disclosure in ad hoc, quarterly, and annual publications in (e.g., SEC Forms 10-Q, 10-K, DEF14A/proxy statement, Forms 3/4/5, etc.)
Responsible for day-to-day compensation and benefits requests
Other special project, duties as needed
- Compensation:Responsible for analyzing, designing and implementing all major compensation programs across Grocery Outlet and partner with the external compensation consultant.
In partnership with Finance and Legal, supports the administration of the Annual Incentive Plan (AIP), and Long-Term Incentive Plan (LTIP), by having a thorough understanding of plan documents, preparing communication for plan participants and assisting in auditing systems to ensure accuracy of data (company allocations, employee earnings, etc.)
Develop compensation philosophy specifically focusing on implementing pay ranges and leveling
Proactively prepare and provide strategic analysis for budget purposes related to merit, bonuses and market adjustments
Collaborate with HR Leadership Teams and executive leaders on pay changes, incentive plans, policy, guidelines and pay decisions
Stay up to date on emerging trends, issues, and best practices - using analytics to enhance programs
Develop implement and lead compensation communication and training programs for managers
Develop collateral for the senior executive team and Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors
Collaborate with HR Leadership team on job evaluations on new and revised positions
- Benefits:Develop a 5-year strategic plan to reduce Healthcare costs (for GOI and employees
Manage relationships with benefit broker/consultants and insurance carriers and acts as liaison to obtain and negotiate renewals, settlements, claims and utilization data and enrollment information; manage the administration of vendor contracts for benefit programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability and 401(k) Defined Contribution retirement plan to ensure cost competitive services and excellent customer service from providers.
Ensure proposed programs are within established budgets
Administer benefit plans including budget preparation and cost sharing determination
Oversee ACA compliance and reporting
Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all benefits plans, as well as completing all required IRS filings
Build and then enhance a Wellness program across the company.
About the Pay:
- Base Salary Range: $180,000 - $225,000 Annually

About You:
- 10+ years of experience in various areas of compensation and benefits
- Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field
- Prior experience working directly with the head of HR, CEO and Board (Compensation Committee) on executive/equity compensation strategies and programs is desirable
- Demonstrated proficiency in working cross functionally
- Results oriented with the ability to influence and deal with ambiguity
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced start up like environment
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with employees at all levels
- Deep expertise in market analysis and developing best practices to retain top talent
- Project management experience including financial analysis and market research
- Certified Compensation Professional a plus
- Advanced excel skills with ability to perform detailed calculations and analysis
- Great customer service, excellent follow through, strong organization and planning, ability to multitask and prioritize and flexibility to meet unexpected requests and changing priorities
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $180,000.00 - $225,000.00 per year
