The Student Success Coordinator reports directly to the Dean of Student Services. The Student Success Coordinator will assist College leadership with development and implementation of the College’s student success efforts. The Coordinator is responsible for managing and expanding the College’s student success efforts, including technology-based platforms. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with faculty and staff to identify and design best practice and appropriate interventions to support and enhance students’ success in college.The successful candidate must be able to:
  • Expand existing support services by developing and implementing new interventions, with a special focus on helping students overcome doubts about their abilities and/or whether they belong in college.

  • Manage and support the ongoing use of the College’s Connecting Learning Assets to Students (CLAS) and EAB Navigate technology platforms focusing on academic and support interventions.

  • Continuously monitor and track students throughout their academic journey.

  • In conjunction with College leadership, determine the most effective intervention strategies for students in promoting retention and student success throughout students’ journeys (recruitment through graduation, including college transfer and/or job placement).

  • Work with all Student Services offices to strengthen the outreach and supports available to students.

  • Supervise academic advisors and coordinate advising schedule for the Dublin campus and Christiansburg site.

  • Provide leadership for the College’s New Student Orientation and Open House programs.

  • Provide leadership for curriculum development of and staffing for SDV 100 courses.

  • Work collaboratively with Institutional Research to analyze and improve effectiveness of outreach and intervention strategies.

  • Coordinate staff development programs related to retention and student success.

  • Work collaboratively with faculty and others on coordination and implementation of professional development related to the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited university.


  • Understanding of and commitment to community college philosophy.

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Understanding of issues, both academic and non-academic, affecting student success.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of issues related to and strategies that foster student success.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to engage, provide support to, and motivate students.

  • Ability to help students understand and adjust to intellectual environment and academic requirements of college.

  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills.

  • Understanding of academic and financial aid requirements.

  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving and strategic planning skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in various forms and strong presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Commitment to and knowledge of assessment and program effectiveness methodologies.

Three current letters of recommendation are required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 3-5 years of postsecondary academic and financial aid advising.


  • Previous record of coordinating and facilitating successful outreach to students and their families.

  • Successful experience in designing and implementing new student orientation sessions.

  • Knowledge of and experience with advising and early alert technology-based student success platforms, such as EAB.
