Position Summary:

The Supervisor is responsible for managing, overseeing and ensuring the smooth running of the sites and its staff. The Supervisor is also responsible for establishing, standardizing, and implementing departmental procedures. In addition, the Supervisor must collaborate with pathologists, other internal departments, and client stakeholders, to make improvements to operations and ensure efficient workflow. The Supervisor will travel between hospital and company sites with regularity and frequency. It is crucial that the Supervisor is knowledgeable about HIPAA, CAP, DOH and CLIA regulations. The Supervisor must practice and enforce all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) procedures as this position is responsible for controlling staff exposure to a number of environmental hazards such as formalin, communicable disease, fresh human tissue, etc.

Position Schedule: This is a Monday - Friday full-time position, which includes flexing hours as needed. This position covers sites in Burien, Tacoma, the Peninsula and Olympia areas. Regular travel between sites required.

Essential Duties:

  • Oversees daily departmental operations and all assigned sites
  • Oversees assistant supervisors and leads, as appropriate
  • Mentors, trains and coaches staff including assistant supervisors and leads
  • Oversees all aspects of staffing, including but not limited to scheduling, budgeting and performance reviews
  • Manages and ensures employees' productivity and work quality
  • Troubleshoots and works to resolve any issues that arise within and between departments/clients
  • Frequently and effectively communicates with department staff, pathologists and management team regarding issues affecting overall operations
  • Represent the company and act as a liaison between the company and our business partners
  • Designs and implements processes, procedures, and process improvement projects
  • Ensures new processes are implemented effectively
  • Conducts periodic departmental CAP/DOH evaluations to maintain regulatory requirements
  • Splits time appropriately/evenly between sites
  • Provides back up assistance to the department
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Technical experience in Cytology, Grossing, Histology or other related laboratory field preferred
  • ASCP or equivalent qualification preferred in Cytology, Grossing Histology or other related laboratory field preferred
  • 5+ years of technical laboratory experience in a moderate to high volume laboratory preferred
  • 2+ years of leadership experience preferred
  • Driver's License and reliable transportation required
