As a Transportation Supervisor at Austin Achieve, you will work on a team to ensure the safe transportation of up to 2,500 Austin Achieve Scholars daily. Your primary duty will be managing the performance of up to 20 Austin Achieve School Bus Drivers and other staff members within the Transportation Department. You will also ensure that your team adheres to all safety procedures, including pre-trip and post-trip safety audits, and complete investigation and documentation related to reported vehicle damage, scholar safety violations, and other safety related incidents. Additionally, you will support the bus fleet’s arrival and departure daily, including assigning coverage of school bus routes and providing traffic control and communication at the bus yard and school campuses.

Note: the Transportation Supervisor will be required to become qualified to drive a school bus during employment if not qualified at hiring. Austin Achieve will provide the necessary training and pay the costs associated with gaining a commercial driver’s license and necessary endorsements upon employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*

Manage the performance of Austin Achieve School Bus Drivers and other staff members within the Transportation Department*

  • Assist in training new school bus drivers to meet and maintain state and federal requirements for licensure
  • Analyze daily attendance and ensure team members are consistently present for duties
  • Provide ongoing feedback to promote performance of duties and responsibilities, including operation of the school bus and related technology, communications, and effective scholar behavior management
  • Complete performance documentation as needed, including general performance evaluations and written warnings
  • Respond to complaints related to transportation services (e.g., late arrival)
  • Serve as a substitute school bus driver on a temporary basis if the department is short staffed on school bus drivers and cover drivers due to unexpected absences

Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and procedures*

  • Provide safety training to new Transportation staff members and drivers in training
  • Ensure the completion of pre-trip and post-trip safety audits of school bus fleet
  • Complete investigation and documentation of safety audits and safety related incidents, including reported vehicle damage, accidents, scholar safety violations, and take appropriate action to resolve the matter.

Qualifications:*

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass the U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
  • Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license (preferred, not required)
