Job Description:

Here at Cornerstone Utility Engineering the Underground Vault & Manhole Inspector position is a challenging and exciting career opportunity. As an Underground Vault & Manhole Inspector, you will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and verifying complex field data about the underground high voltage distribution system. Working with a team of Clerks each day, you’ll be responsible to feed engineering a foundation of core data that helps keep the lights on!

Training Opportunity for Telecommunications Inspectors:

We encourage experienced telecommunications inspectors to apply for this position, and will train you on the electrical inspection aspects.

Responsibilities Include:

· Coordinate activities with other internal personnel and/or organizations to ensure compliance and appropriate follow-through of policies, procedures, rules, and completion dates applicable to his/her assigned projects.

· Maintain a current understanding of industry practices, standards and customer needs.

· Set up and tear down complex traffic control and pedestrian traffic control systems.

· Perform a fully photographed, diagrammed, and complex review of underground vaults, manholes, pull boxes, hand holes, sub stations, etc.

· Abide by the conditions of permits and easements, identifying environmental requirements and coordinating required project components with other departments, customers, governmental bodies, and various external sources.

· Assist in managing numerous complex inventory projects from inception to completion.

· Maintain a safety conscious work environment by following Cornerstone Utility Engineering safety protocols and safe work practices.

· Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

· Comprise daily and weekly schedule for projects, including but not limited to, QEW scheduling, internal personal scheduling, and mandrel crew scheduling.

· Review work orders for required permits and/or traffic control and attain permits as required.

· Coordinate with DOP for substation checkers and NTO requests.

· Maintain inventory truck equipment and supplies.

· Reviewing and signing off subcontractor time sheets for accuracy

· Assist QEW as needed; opening structure, gas testing, ensuring adequate pedestrian clearance, and pumping structures as needed.

· Communicating with SCE regarding potential safety issues found in field.

Desired Qualifications:

· A combination of formal education, training, and experience to gain knowledge, skills, and abilities generally equivalent to those possessed by a high school graduate.

· Demonstrated experience reviewing civil construction plans, identifying necessary resources required to complete the job.

· Demonstrated experience managing work orders/projects and maintaining a current understanding of industry practices, and standards.

· Demonstrated experience acquiring permits, identifying environmental requirements.

· Demonstrated experience working with customers, identifying needs and resolving customer issues.

· Demonstrated experience, training, or education applying technical information related to engineering, drafting, architecture, construction, mapping, design, mechanics, mathematics, science or computers.

· Demonstrated experience managing several projects concurrently, adjusting to shifting priorities, and meeting deadlines.

· Must possess strong oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients/ customers.

· Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others.

· Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze information and make sound decisions independently and in consideration of applicable policies and procedures.

· Demonstrated ability to take initiative and be accountable for the accuracy of information and for achieving results.

· Able to drive, traverse on uneven surfaces, frequently lift up to 40 lbs, sit/stand for extended periods of time, work in various weather conditions, and possibly be in remote regions (coast, desert, and mountain) for extended periods of time.

Pay Bands: Underground Vault & Manhole Inspector

· Underground Vault & Manhole Inspector – $25.00-$35.00 per hour depending on experience, productivity, and jobsite safety record.
