As the Category Manager, you will be working with key stakeholders (Engineering, Manufacturing, NPI, Finance) to formulate the category
strategy that is fully aligned with the business strategy. You will be managing a global team of strategic sourcing specialists and commodity
managers that will implement the strategy and drive supplier relationship management.

What you will do:
- Designs category strategy and evaluates opportunities for global and low-cost country sourcing to drive competitive advantage for the organization.
- Works closely with the Strategic Procurement Commodity team for pooled commodities and represents the VARIAN Business Line during negotiations and business line requirements.
- Analyzes data or insights to determine the industry trends. Analyses potential global supply chains to ensure that external organizations contribute added value.
- Delivers sourcing strategies, including cost reduction and risk mitigation identified as part of the category strategy.
- Collates, reviews and disseminates data on departmental KPIs to colleagues and senior management.
- Evaluates data recorded on balanced scorecards for supply chain performance and develops improvements with suppliers and other stakeholders.
- Develops supplier relationship management processes with colleagues and key stakeholders and ensures improvement plans are initiated and investigated for the effective delivery of purchased goods or services.
- Drives the team’s performance through development and best practice implementation of tools and processes.
What you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field of study, or equivalent work experience.
- 8+ years’ experience in Procurement preferred.
- Experience in Direct Materials purchasing.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills.
- Experience in managing high, complex products and supply chains.
- Ability, competence, and confidence to lead people.
- Aptitude for handling multi-dimensional, complex processes and/or projects with the ability to identify specific examples.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills be able to understand and communicate complex topics with simplicity, partnering with vendors and across organizational boundaries and up/down the management chain.
- Demonstrate accountability; be willing to take measured risks and to own outcomes.
- Able to drive change as part of a broader transformation program
- Be adaptable and able to make decisions in an ambiguous environment
