Job Description | Lead Host / Hostess
Reports to: Maître D/ Wine Director
Summary:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the host/hostess position are to make guests feel welcome, appreciated and to extend to them every courtesy. This includes answering the telephones in a professional and friendly manner, greeting guests warmly and sincerely when they arrive at the restaurant or at the time of reservation, seating guests gracefully using the appropriate standards and handling any special requests guests may have without hesitation. Every guest should leave the restaurant having had his or her expectations met or exceeded every time. The host/hostess is the face of the restaurant. They are the first contact and last person our guests will see when they join us for a dining experience.
Essential Duties / Tasks / Responsibilities:
Guest Service
Ensure high levels of guest satisfaction.
Responsible for designing weekly the Host/ess team schedules and provide it to management.
Provide guests with courteous, friendly and efficient service.
Answer phones using appropriate verbiage.
Makes reservation in software system.
Answers questions of guests (i.e., menu details, directions, etc.)
Contacts guest/parties prior to arrival to confirm reservations.
Greets guests, escorts them to tables, and provides menus.
Ensures menu count and quality of menus meet cleanliness expectations.
Coordinates activities of dining room personnel to ensure prompt and courteous service to patrons.
Contacts concierges to increase reservations and create local relationships.
Filters and proposes to ownership for approval future events.
Responsible for meeting preparations.
Proactively Proposes and orders after approval guest experience amenities inkling shawls charges, purse hooks.
Assists servers on the floor during meal periods.
Assists handling of maintenance of the restaurant as designated by manager.
Maintains venue landscape and or contact of landscape company in acceptable conditions.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Excellent guest service and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to diverse guest types.
Ability to remain calm and well organized under pressure while working quickly.
Ability to prioritize and maintain multiple tables at a time.
Keeps emotions under control.
Excellent time management skills.
Strong verbal and written skills.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to properly operate the telephone and all software used for the reservation system.
Basic knowledge of Food and Wine, as well as Beer, liquor, and mixed drinks.
Ability to respond promptly to customer needs.
Ability to communicate effectively with guests and Team Members.
Must speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
Basic knowledge of POS system
Proficient in Open Table reservation system
Adaptable to a changing work environment.
Local knowledge of the community (attractions activities, etc.)
English language and professional communications skills are required.
Experience / Education / Certifications:
High School diploma – required.
Hospitality or customer service experience - required.
Minimum of 1 experience in Front of House Food & Beverage operations- preferred.
