The Piney Woods School is seeking an innovative individual with the energy and passion to serve as Stewardship and Donor Relations Officer. The Piney Woods School was founded in 1909 on land known as the piney woods located near Mississippi’s capital city of Jackson, emphasizing educating the head, heart and hands of every student through academic achievement, community service and occupational skills. The Piney Woods School endures today as the largest historically African American, independent, college preparatory, boarding school in the country. The school’s current operating budget is supported annually through tuition and public and private support.
Overview of the role:
Maintain the data base, generate acknowledgement letters, steward donors as outlined in the stewardship matrix and provide support to key donor-related activities within the development department to help meet an annual fundraising goal of at least $2 million.

- 1. Excellent organizational and management skills; confident and comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities; ability to organize and maintain files
- 2. Must have intermediate to advanced computer skills including Microsoft, Generations, and Internet applications
- 3. Type at least 50 words per minute
- 4. Ability to work independently and make decisions
- 5. Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- 6. Ability to maintain a professional disposition, i.e., should be evidenced by a pleasant personality, a helpful attitude, and the maintenance of an orderly work environment
- 7. Ability to maintain highly confidential information

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the integrity and accuracy of the donor database. (This includes entering financial and donor data, diagnostic queries, preparation of reports, and timely acknowledgment to donors.)
- Upkeep of donor management software sufficient to be able to produce gift reports, donor rosters, acknowledgements, donor pledge commitments and reports as well as donor recognition reports.
- Establish routine database clean ups (duplicate profiles, inactive constituents, demographics, e-mails, phone numbers, NCOA updates, etc.). •
- Analyze income trends and patterns and works closely with other fundraising team members to develop strategies to research, engage, and steward new potential supporters.
Event Support:
- Set-up events through NetworkforGood,
- Prepare and manage mailing lists,
- Act as lead staff for all registration of major events,
- Manage financial and analytical event reports,
- Gift processing support of some third-party events,
- Assist event leads with reporting needs.
- Prepare mailing lists and reports for annual appeals.
- Manage the structure, formatting, and messaging of central gift acknowledgments and donor pledge tracking and reminders.
Additional Responsibilities:
- 1. Train and supervise office work students, part-time data entry volunteers and/or staff.
- 2. Seek personal and professional development opportunities
- 3. Serve on various committees as assigned
- 4. Carry out all school rules, policies, and procedures
- 5. Perform other related functions as requested by your immediate supervisor(s) or administrative staff
Job Type: Full-time
